Welder Lands in Prison For Stealing TV

A 28-year-old Iron Bender, Ignatus Simon has been sentenced to three months imprisonment by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja for stealing television.

The presiding officer, Alhaji, Abubakar Sadiq pronouncement the sentence on Friday after the convict had been found guilty of housebreaking and stealing of television set.

Sadiq, however, gave Simon an option to a pay a fine of N10, 000, and warned him to desist from committing crimes.

He said that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to other would be offenders.

Simon had told the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that he committed the crime because he was hungry.

”It is hunger and devil that made me act that way”.

According to Prosecutor Zannah Dalhatu, one Abigael Gwazah, of Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station on January 5, 2017.

Dalhatu said that the convict broke into her home in December and stole a television set, worth over N53, 000.
He said the offence contravened sections 355 and 287 of the Penal Code.
