Violation of Procurement Act: Reps Summon Fashola, Adeosun To Appear On Tuesday
Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and her counterpart for Works, Housing and Power, Mr. Babatunde Fashola are expected to appear before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement on Tuesday.
The committee summoned the ministers to explain their roles in the violation of the Public Procurement Bill.
The House of Reps also summoned the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Ahmad Ali (retd over his alleged roles in pre-shipment inspection deals.
All these, according to the committee are bordering on violation of Procurement Act of 2007, which need explanation and clarifications from the ministers and CG of Customs.
The lawmakers also invited Managing Director of Cobalt Nigeria Ltd, Mr Darlington Agha Director-General of Industrial Training Fund, ITF, Joseph Ari and Managing Director, Trobell Int’l Nig Ltd, Sede Thomas.
Meanwhile, a member of the committee, Kolawole Gabriel made a suggestion that he former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala be summoned since some of the issues were connected to her.
His suggestion was turned down by other members who said that there would be no need to invite Okonjo-Iweala unless the current minister, Adeosun makes a complaint concerning her predecessor.
The lawmakers also expressed displeasure over the failure of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, towards payment of N25 billion into the Nigerian Export Supervision Scheme, NESS, accounts.
The committee also frowned at the NNPC’s non-remittance of $20 million unspent fund to the Federation Account at the end of the 2016 financial year.
