True Federalism: APC Reconstitutes Committee On Restructuring
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has reconstituted the committee to look at the issue of restructuring the Federal Structure, saying it is not opposed to True Federalism.
The National Chairman of the Party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun while expanding the members of the committee from 10 to 24 on Thursday said that the new look would give the holistic and wide consultation for a credible report.
While the chairman of the committee remains, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and the secretary as Senator Olubunmi Adetunbi, new members include Senator Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan, Senator Osita Izunaso, Mr Sullivan Chime, Mrs. Rachael Akpabio, Hajiya Fati Bala and Hajia Aisha Ismail.
Other members are, Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Simon Lalong and Mohammed Abubakar.
The committee members also include, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim, Ms. Sharon Ikeazor, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, Barr. Ismail Ahmed, Dr. Stella Dorgu, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, Jasper Azuatalem and Mrs. Rinsola Abiola.
Speaking, Odigie-Oyegun said that one of the cardinal points of APC during merging was the formation of true federalism and that the noise about restructuring on the street now was not new to the party.
He said, “APC is not against federalism and that is why it is imperative for us to increase the committee to 24 members to articulate the party’s position.”
He tasked members of the committee to have a critical look at issues of devolution of power, fiscal federalism, resource control and other issues thrown up following recent clamour for the restructuring of the country.
