Tinubu Challenges FG To Fashion New Economy
National Leader of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has challenged the Federal Government to fashion a new economy in the present recession.
He said this at the 91st Anniversary of Daily Times and Times heroes awards held at International Conference Centre, Abuja, calling on the government to shift its attention away from oil economy.
Tinubu who was represented by the Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola said that the country could not continue to pretend that the era of oil economy is gone and that there is need for reform in which state government is empowered to manage its resources.
As he put it, “We cannot fool ourselves with promise that the prices of oil will rebound and things will return to normal. We must fashion a new economy in the face of the present recession.”
Tinubu explained that for the fact that the country is gradually going out of recession does not translate to economic prosperity.
“There is need to devolve power to the component units of the country to pave way for genuine development and growth,” he said.
He attributed the present state of the nation to the failures of the past as it challenged the government to create policies that will revamp the economy not only for a short term purpose but for a long term agenda.
‘‘We must have the boldness to embark on hard work, progressive reforms for material reality. The past calls for present and future planning,” he said.
He stated that this is not the time to trade blames but a time to unite and create true federalism for economic development.
