Three More Suspects Arrested At Lagos Kidnap Den
The Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three more kidnap suspects at the Obadeyi-Ijaiye end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
One of the three, a woman pretended to be a mad woman was found in possession of Automated Teller Machine card and two loaves of bread in her bag.
The police said that she had refused to confess but the other two men had already confessed that they were members of the kidnap gangs using the canal as hideouts.
On Tuesday, a woman street sweeper working with the Lagos State Waste Management Agency had uncovered the hideouts, following a noise by one of the kidnapped victims under the bridge.
She raised the alarm that somebody was calling for help from the canal. This made residents to storm the place where they apprehended five kidnappers.
Two of them were set ablaze while the other three were handed over to the place.
However, the police continued the raid of the area and were able to apprehend three other suspect on Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses said that the suspected woman should be in her 40s. She wore tattered clothes and had a bag. We saw her going towards the drainage channel. When we checked the bag, we discovered two (2) loaves of bread, some pieces of fish, three (3) GSM phones and an ATM card.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, told our correspondent that investigation was going on and that the police would not jump into conclusion that the canal was a den of kidnappers.
