SENATE PRESIDENT BUKOLA SARAKI ADVOCATES FOR A TRUST FUND FOR ATHLETES
The senate president, Bukola Saraki has thrown his weight behind a call for a trust fund to cater for Nigerian sportsmen and women while alive and also after their demise.
Saraki made this known in Ilorin on Sunday through a representative Alloy Chukwuemeka, who was in charge of organizing a football tourney.
This is just after the senate president had to wade into the welfare of former super eagle’s striker, Rashidi Yekini’s family after securing some items and a maid for the late footballer’s mum.
He stated that when you look around the situation surrounding sports stars, it is obvious that there is a need to cater for them and their families.
This senate president also made calls for sportsmen and women to also make judicious use of their resources while still active.
He stated that wise investments would definitely help the sportsmen although that would not stop plans for the sports fund.
He said that not all athletes made a fortune from their work considering that those who were competitive in the 80’s and 90’s didn’t make as much money as their counterparts do these days.
A football competition for the grassroots known as the Rasheed Yekini U-13 football competition was initiated by the senate president which kicked off on the 19th of August for young boys in Ira, Ijagbo and Offa, Oyun Local Government Areas.
