NYSC Member ‘Ekene Uwaoma Martins’ Shot Dead In Owerri Imo State
A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member identified as Ekene Uwaoma Martins has been killed by gunmen in Owerri Imo State.
He was waylaid by the hoodlums at Ama-wire Junction around 8.30pm on Monday while strolling with his friend who identified himself as MacDonald.
According to Macdonald, the corps member studied History and International Studies at the Imo State University, Owerri, and was posted to Ogun State for one-year national service.
MacDonald said that Uwaoma had come home to see his mother when the gunmen attacked them.
As he put it, “We were strolling along Ama-wire Junction when the hoodlums came to us. They asked us to release our telephone handsets. I quickly dropped my own but Uwaoma refused to drop his.”
He explained that the robbers began to struggle the phone with Uwaoma and within that short period, they shot him in his chest.
Uwaoma was 23 and a native of Umudo-Anara, in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
MacDonald also explained that Ekene Uwaoma was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where doctors confirmed him dead.
However, the gunmen did not pick Uwaoma’s phone after they had killed him. They fled,” MacDonald said.
