NNPC: Buhari Speaks To Kachikwu, Baru
President Muhammadu Buhari has made a phone calls to the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru over the resentment between the two.
A source at the presidency told our correspondent that the president had been fully briefed on the petition written by the minister over alleged insubordination of Baru and steps had were being taken to resolve the matter.
The source stated that the president quickly called on both of them to rescind from the press so that the issue is not blown out of proportion.
“President Buhari is aware of everything that is going on. He has intervened by calling the two of them to order so as not to rock the boat of the oil and gas sector,” the source explained.
He stated that the president would meet with both officers but would not know when the meeting would take place.
Kachikwu had written a petition to Buhari intimating him with Baru’s insubordination. The petition was leaked to the media.
In the petition, Kachikwu alleged Baru of awarding contracts to the tune of $25 billion without the approval of the NNPC board.
He also alleged that the GMD NNPC had sidelined him in the administration of the country major source of resources, oil and gas by not following the legal and proper procedures in the appointment of people into vacant positions.
