Nine Persons Hospitalised After Nsukka Auto Crash – Police

About nine persons are currently receiving treatment at Bishop Shanaham Hospital, Nsukka and to Enechi Hospital, Ukehe-Nsukka, Enugu State due to injuries they sustained in a road accident on Sunday.

A collusion had occurred between a Toyota Carina car CG 25 ENU and a Toyota Hiace bus ENU 681 XA but a prompt intervention of the state police command saved the passengers.

According to the command’s spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, the accident occurred at about 5pm on Sunday on Enugu-Makurdi Expressway at Umuoka in Udi Local Government Area.

He said, “The drivers and the conductor of the Hiace bus with other occupants were critically injured with seven other passengers.”

“However, the police patrol team on the road was on hand to evacuate the injured victims on time and for medical attention and also clearance of obstructions to avoid further incident.

The police had embarked on investigation to know the cause of the accident while the injured passengers had been responding to treatment.

The police, however stated that none of the victims’ relations had since shown up to visit them at the hospitals.

The accident was attributed to over speeding by eyewitnesses on the road, saying that most passengers in the vehicle were returning to their work stations after the Christmas and New Year Holiday
