Madrid Equal Barcelona’s 39 Match Unbeaten Run

Real Madrid have broken equaled Barcelona’s unbeaten record as they went 39 games without a loss in the Spanish La Liga and all other competitions.

The feat was complete after they dispatched lowly Granada 5-0 today in La Liga matching the record set by their bitter rivals.

The last time the side coached by Zinedine Zidane tasted defeat was against Wolfsburg in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, a 2-0 deficit they would ultimately overturn on the way to becoming European champions.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Isco were among the goals as they decimated Granada to begin the new year in La Liga on a very bright note.

Isco scored two goals with returnee French striker, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo also on target before the half-time break, as Casemiro scored a rare goal in a dull second half.

Real Madrid now sit six points at the top of the standings and will hold the record for the longest undefeated run if they avoid defeat to Sevilla in the Copa del Rey on Thursday who they beat in the first leg by 3 goals to nil.
