Killers Of Orlu Catholic Diocese Priest Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo Arrested
The Imo State Police Command has arrested six suspects, including a dismissed policeman over the killing of Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo of the Orlu Catholic Diocese, Imo State.
Parading the suspects on Thursday, the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, identified a 32-year-old dismissed police Corporal, Jude Madu as the mastermind of the abduction and murder of the priest.
Others are Victor Ikechukwu, 33, from Obowo in Imo State; Izuchukwu Okafor, 28, from Ukwukwa, in Azia, Anambra State; Emmanuel Ozuigbo, 29, from Ezeagu in Enugu State; Cyril Onyema, 29, from Okwelle, Imo State; and Ifechukwu Nwosu, 28, from Azia, Anambra State.
The commissioner said that all the suspects were arrested across three states of Rivers, Anambra and Imo.
He stated that the wristwatch of the murdered priest had been recovered from one of the killers and that they would be prosecuted.
Ezike said, “We used forensic technology and backed it up with hard work, commitment, passion and hunger for success.
The commissioner also stated that the telephone handset of the priest was found in the custody of the dismissed police corporal.
He said one of the suspects, Okafor was arrested at Presidential Hotel where he was hiding after he had fled from Imo State.
He confessed that they covered the priest’s mouth with cloth and were taking him away in a car but unfortunately the catholic father was suffocated to death.
