How African Church Priest ‘Revd. David Ayeola’ Was Killed By Kidnappers
The chaplain to the Bishop of the African Church, Ondo Central Diocese, Revd. David Ayeola was killed by suspected kidnappers at the weekend.
He was shot by his abductors during the exchange of gunshots between the policemen and the assailants.
According to the investigation, the chaplain was abducted while on a journey with the bishop Samuel Ojo and his wife from Imojo Ekiti to Abeokuta.
The hoodlums waylaid the vehicles of the clerics and abducted the chaplain while the bishop and his wife escaped into the nearby bush.
The suspected kidnappers later requested a ransom of N100 million from the church headquarters in Akure but the church said it could only afford N500, 000.
However, the church reported the case to the Ekiti State Police Command and kept on with the negotiation so that the police could apprehend the suspects.
It was learnt that the situation went awry when the policemen arrived the hideouts of the kidnappers.
There was a serious shootout between the kidnappers and the policemen, which led to the eventual killing of the priest.
When contacted, the church’s Diocesan Public Relations Officer, Alex Akande, said he could not talk about the incident, adding that the church’s leadership would meet on Monday (today).
Meanwhile the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Adeyemi Ademola has confirmed the death, adding that the body of the slain priest had been deposited at a morgue.
