GRAZING OF CATTLE BANNED IN EKITI STATE – Ayodele Fayose

The governor of Ekiti State Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has banned the act of cattle rearing and grazing in the nomadic way in Ekiti State.

This ban was imposed during the governor’s visit to the communities affected by the recent attacks from alleged herdsmen in Oke Ako in Ikole Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Friday night.

The attack left two people dead and a number of others injured. Those injured were taken to different private hospitals in the state.

The governor was in the company of the commissioner of police for the state James Etop, the director of the Director of Department of State Services and the state Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Don Ikemefuna. He commiserated with those who lost loved ones and said a bill which will render criminal the act of grazing would be sent to the state house of assembly.

The law would only allow owners of cattle to graze within ranches and no longer nomads as is obtainable at the moment.
