Govt Gives Deadline of December 16 to Pay Taxes
The government of Lagos state through the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has stated that all taxpayers that have yet to fulfill their obligation have been given between December 1 and 16, 2016, to pay their overdue taxes and levies so as to avoid prosecution for flouting.
This was disclosed by the Mr. Ayodele Subair, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, yesterday Wednesday 7 December where he also disclosed that the agency has in the last few months embarked on massive advocacy and enlightenment programmes.
This programmes are aimed at educating taxpayers in Lagos state on the laws that border on tax administration and also to help outline the benefits of paying taxes as and when due.
In his words, the FIRS boss also stated clearly that in spite of the significant decline in the allocation from the federation account, the Lagos State Government was still doing a lot to develop the lives of residents in the state and that is why the issue of taxes has to be taken seriously.
He outlined the taxers that should be payed to the government which include, the Personal Income Tax (PAYE, Direct Assessment, Self-Assessment), Withholding Tax, Hotel Occupancy and Restaurants Consumption Tax and Land Use Charge and Ground Rent.
