Eight LASTMA Officials Arrested For Taking Bribe

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has arrested eight of its officials for allegedly taking bribe from motorists.

The LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olawale Musa said this, adding that the suspects would appear before the Personnel Management Board (Discipline) to defend their action in accordance with the relevant sections of the Public Service Rules.

The arrested officials include Davies Idowu, Olaoye Peter, Adegbeshin Adeola, Olowu Said, Folashade Abolade, Akinkotu Olusoga, and Shittu Lanre.

They were all attached to the Agege-Pen Cinema Office of the Agency before they committed offence last week.

According to investigation, the duo of Davies and Adeshina took bribe from the drivers Donatus Eze of Lagos painted commercial buses with registration numbers KRD 558 XM and Olatunji Mayowa, FKJ 770 XT respectively.

The drivers violated traffic offence at Abule-Egba and were arrested by the LASTMA officials, taken to the Agege-Pen Cinema Office of the Agency.

However, the matter took a new twist at the Agege-Pen Cinema Office of the LASTMA when the apprehending officials in conjunction with the General Duty Officer demanded for the sum of N7,200 from each of the bus drivers before the release of the buses.

The drivers agreed to pay the money but took further step to report the officials to the appropriate authority.

Abolade was arrested by the Provost Marsha as he was collecting N7, 200 from Eze. He also had in his pocket N7, 200 he collected from Mayowa.

At the same location, LASTMA officials Olowu Said, Shittu Lanre, Olaoye Peter, Akinkotu Olusoga and Adebola Said arrested a commercial vehicle and collected bribe from him. “They did not know that the money had also been marked,” the General Manager said.
