ECOWAS Delegation To Meet Jammeh on Friday
The delegation from the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS), led by Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari will now meet with president Jammeh of the Gambia on Friday on the behest of the Gambian leader.
The High Level ECOWAS mediation mission had originally planned to meet him today but the delegation has now stated that they had to push the date forward and reschedule for Friday.
This was disclosed in a statement by the senior special assistant on media, Garba Shehu who further said that president Buhari alongside Mr. John Mahama, the immediate past president of Ghana have assured that the delay notwithstanding, the mandate of the ECOWAS team will be accomplished.
Citizens have already begun fleeing the country even as some countries have also warned their citizen who reside in Gambia to leave the country due to the political uncertainty which might degenerate to something more disastrous.
The ECOWAS team have stated that they are committed to the resolution of the crisis through inclusive dialogue with respect to the constitution and the will of the people of Gambia even as Jammeh has accused ECOWAS of going against the people of Gambia.
