Dangote To Resume Production in Tomatoes Factory
After production was halted in February 2016, due to lack of enough raw materials, the Dangote Tomato Processing Factory in Kadawa, Kura Local Government Area of Kano State is to resume production of the produce in February 2017
This was revealed by Alh. Abdulkadir Kaita, the Managing Director of the company, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.
He further explained that preparations by the company have reached an advanced stage.
Recall that the company had to halt production due to the “Tuta Absoluta’’ pest which destroyed tomato farms in Kano, Jigawa, Plateau, Katsina and Kaduna states.
Speaking on the decision to begin in February, Kaita stated that “We expect that tomato farmers would have produced enough for the company to process, hence our decision to resume production in February.’’
He stated also that the wait was necessary so as to ensure that when production starts, the price doesn’t go up.
Kaita further disclosed that company would soon begin recruitment of additional staff as they have to keep up with the capacity of the factory which stands at 40 trucks or 1,200 tonnes of fresh tomatoes per day.
