Cult Members Set Three Persons Ablaze In Rivers

No fewer than three persons, including one Alhaji Hamza Garuba, his wife and stepson were burnt when some suspected cult members set a building ablaze in Eleme Local Government, River state.

The cult guys stormed the house belonging to Okpako-Ejemah family at about 10:55 pm Sunday and set it ablaze.

According to investigation, a member of the cult had broken into the house earlier and attempted to rape Garuba’s wife but he was stabbed to death by the husband.

One of Garba’s relatives, Muhammed Sanni told our correspondent that the cult members reinforced and came back to the house burning it while the occupants were not allowed to escape.

He said, “The stabbing of the criminal might have infuriated other gang members, who quickly ran out of the house, locked the entrance door and set the house ablaze. My brother (Alhaji Hamza Garuba), his wife and a stepson were killed.”

Meanwhile, the South-South, South-East Coordinator of Arewa Consultative Forum, Alhaji Musa Saidu, said, “What happened at Okpako-Ejemah was a case of robbery and arson.”

However, the Rivers State Police Command had since arrested two suspects connected to the crime, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said.
