Court Dissolves Marriage Over Sickle Cell Genotype

An Ilorin Area Court has dissolved the six-year-old marriage between a wife Aminat and her husband Tunji Ajise over unmatched genotype.

Aminat, a resident of Balogun Fulani Area, Ilorin, told the court that since her husband had since abandoned her with three children due to genotype unmatched.

She asked the court to dissolve the marriage, adding that she could not cope with the trauma again.

Aminat alleged that her husband had since packed out from home to live with another woman.

“Our first son is a sickler and since my husband knew this, he had been looking for a way to push me out of his life,” she said.

Both got married in 2000 and their union had been blessed with three children.

“My lord, I am tired of his nonchalant attitude. My husband doesn’t give us money for food and he has shown clearly that he does not want me and my children anymore,” she said.

“My emotion has been seriously hurt over a husband that is not caring,” she lamented.

Meanwhile, the husband did not object the wife in court as he added agreed to the dissolution of the marriage.

The presiding judge, Mr Ibrahim AbdulKadri, dissolved the marriage and issued a certificate of divorce to the plaintiff.
