Acting President Osinbajo”ll Sign 2017 Budget – Aide
The media office of the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the Acting President will sign the 2017 budget after he is satisfied with it.
The Spokesman to the acting president, Mr. Laolu Akande doused the tension making the rounds in media that his boss might not assent to the budget.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had been misquoted earlier that he could not say who to sign the budget.
However in a tweet at the midnight, Akande said that the acting president would sign it when he is satisfied with it.
As he put it, “when the time comes, everything is set and he is satisfied, Ag. President Yemi Osinbajo will assent to the 2017 budget.”
Though, Mohammed had come out to debunk the report as he told journalists shortly after the Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting that the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma had just received a copy of the budget from the National Assembly and would have to make copies for other members of the cabinet to study it.
He said that the ministers would have to crosscheck to know if what they had sent to the National Assembly reflected in the appropriation before the issue of assent would come in.
“Udoma is expected to make the advance copy available to other Ministers to compare with the estimates they originally sent to the National Assembly”, he said.
To Mohammed, there is need to do a proper reconciliation by the ministers and compare what they sent to what they now receive.
